Wise Guys Book Review #FlyBy #giveaway #WiseGuys

Pin It Now!

Are you surrounded by a house full of men like myself? How do they gain their wisdom as they age into adulthood? Sometimes the wisdom and the influence does not come from within their home, they sometimes have to seek guidance from Men from their outside world, for my middle son this has been in the form a friendship from an unlikely source. My 17 soon to be 18 year old son's best friend is his mentor from down the street who just so happens to be 65 years old. I thank God for him everyday. You see my husband has some mental health issues that have prevented my husband and sons' father to be the role model that he should be for his sons. This saddens me sometimes but then I look at all of the outside influence my kids can get from Men that they look up to and whom I can trust to make a good influence on them to help guide them into Faithful, Godly men!

So when I got the opportunity to review, Wise Guys, unlocking the hidden wisdom from the men around you I knew this would be the perfect book for my middle son for his Graduation from High School(homeschool).

I want my boys to know where else to get influence and wisdom from, it truly is all around them they just may not always know how to find it or where to look for it.
In Wise Guys Kent talks about things that are hard for him, such as asking for directions, reading assembly instructions, and the biggest one asking for help! The first chapter starts as Kent was just 17, the same age as my Alyx. Perfect start to this book since I am giving it to him. This chapter is all about figuring yourself out, direction of career and other stuff. Each chapter has true to his life stories and directions to go through life stages, each chapter has Questions to Consider that are quite thought provoking. There are talk about lessons he learned as he edged his way through adulthood. Valuable lessons and not always learned the right or easy way. Life is tough there is no doubt about that. There is talk about Grace and Prayer and a bunch of other things but I do not want to give the book away.

A little about the book

WISE GUYS:

For guys, more than ever, it’s a confusing world. Your GPS doesn’t offer any maps showing how to get to the point of wisdom — and who likes asking for directions anyway?
But there are ways to get that guidance you need. The answers may be all around you, in the form of guys you already know. Wise guys. More experienced guys. Better-traveled guys. Could there be ways to tap into their invaluable knowledge without enduring dull lectures or taking pages of notes?

Kent Evans has surrounded himself with these wise guys. They have shown him all the back roads on the way to wisdom. With a great deal of humor and an endless supply of stories, he wants to show you how to gather life-enriching truth from the guys in your own circle.

Bearing Witness Book Review #FlyBy #giveaway

Pin It Now!                                              bearing witness book cover

I am just getting back into some book reviewing as our homeschooling year has ended and I finally have some free time on my hands. I like to read all sorts of genres of books but tend to stick to Christian based. This book that I am sharing with you today is one that tells Stories of Martyrdom and Costly Dicipleship, it is Bearing Witness. I was given this opportunity from FlyByPromotions.

Bearing Witness: Stories of Martyrdom and Costly Discipleship
Publisher: Plough Publishing House
Category: Christianity/History
Binding: Softcover
240 pages
This was not an easy light hearted read by any means, this was a thought provoking condemning read.. Have you truly thought what some risk by witnessing to others? Would you risk your life to profess your faith in Jesus Christ?? Throughout our existence here on Earth many have done just that and will continue to do so, are you ready to be one of them? Bearing Witness takes you from Early Christianity through Radical Reformation and then to Early Modern Witnessings to where we are now in recent events Witnessing.

What you may not think about is how being a follow of Christ can be a dangerous path, but at the same time it is also the most fulfilling path. There is a lengthy introduction that lays out the journey for you and then you begin the travels through Christianity. Tales of Men, Women and Children who have stood strong in their Faith and professed it others and sometimes paid a very high price for this. One thing is for sure they all their Faith was important enough to them to share it with others without worrying about the consequences.

This book held me captive while I read it, I felt as if I was there watching as the stories, true stories unfolded right in front of me. I felt the strength of these folks as well as the anguish. It moved me and condemned me all at the same time. It got me to thinking.... Am I truly prepared to profess my Faith in Christ at any cost, or am in complacent in my life just sharing with like minded individuals or those on the fence ready to jump in and join me? I cannot wait to change my way of thinking and sharing and witnessing and step out of my comfort zone, I am also going to share this book in hopes it will get others to answer God's call as well.

  Are you ready??
