Weekly Weigh In Week 3

Pin It Now!

So I weighed in a couple days late this week, it has been a stress filled week to say the least. What is different about that it is always stressful here, if it was possible there was actually more stressful than usual. Friday last week my parents had to put our dog Dakota down that we have had for almost 10 years, she was very sick and we put it off as long as humanely possible but the time came. I have not been that sad in so long, my kids took it hard too and I think that almost hurt more, it was the only pet they have lost to a death.
Last Saturday I threw my back out. I actually felt something POP out of alignment in my back. So I had to take it easy for the week and just started feeling better Thursday. A very old and dear friend of the family who is like an Uncle to me was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer this week and is being sent home from the hospital after almost 2 weeks tomorrow with a prognosis of only 4-6 months. I want to crawl in a hole and not come out until the world as I know it is right again.
But alas I know that will never be, so on I must trudge. So now that you know about all of my extra stresses this week, let us get on to the nitty gritty of the actual weightloss for the week. I have still been soda free now going on 3 weeks, I am actually quite impressed with my will power as far as this is concerned especially when I usually turn to a big ole Coca Cola when I feel stressed. I also switched to 1% milk from 2% this past week.
I am actually looking into trying Zumba out but looking for a local friend to go with, or I may get a wii since ours died last year we do not currently have one, I noticed they have Zumba for the Wii. No matter what this is the week to throw some exercise of some sort into the mix, one way or another I am going to beat this weightloss roller coasted for good.
I also applied for a blogger program for a weightloss challenge so please pray I am accepted I really think it would be so good for me. I hope to hear something soon and then I will share with you.

So I know you are dying to know how I did this week? Right? I was worried to be honest when I went to weigh in today, since I have not been tracking my points as closely as I should have been. Much to my surprise I was down another 1.2 lbs making my total weightloss so far -5.8lbs. I was a tad bummed since I was hoping to be able to 2 more marbles to my jar of pounds lost, but there is always next week. I did however get my bookmark at my meeting with my first 5 pounds lost sticker. I also received a Bravo sticker for sharing about giving up soda.

I am hoping for at least a -1.2 loss next week so I can add 2 marbles to my jar next week. ONLY 106.2 pounds to go to meet my ultimate goal.
I can do this!! And you can too!!

Today we lost a very dear friend.... We will miss you Dakota

Pin It Now!

Today our family faced a terrible heartache, my parents had to put down their dog Dakota, she was 10 yrs old and very sick but the boys have grown up with her most of their lives. It was the first dog they ever knew, which led them to have a love for animals, especially dogs. Dakota you will forever be in our hearts and know we will see you one day again. We will be sure to bring lots of treats. We love you forever and always my puppy you will be.

Rainbow Bridge - Author unknown
Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing - they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers. Suddenly, he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted and when you and your special friend finally meet you cling together in joyous reunion never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face. Your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

Weekly Weigh In Week 2 .......

Pin It Now!

Well I ended up weighing in a week early this week, last week weigh in was also our first week back at Enrich, our homeschool co-op, this made for a hectic morning. I only weighed in and did not stay for the meeting. That is half the process, attending the meeting right? So I had some money this week left even though tomorrow is pay day which for us is a small miracle. I was so glad I did though because at today's meeting Florine THE Weight Watcher's lady sent her personal Chef Isabella, and she cooked for us and gave us some recipes and we got to sample Blood Orange Salsa over a cube of feta cheese, I was not fond of it even though I love Feta but I tried it and that is all that matters. I tell my kids that all the time.

I continued on with my journey to end my Coke addiction and even though there was some times of stress or being in a car and passing by McD I did not cave, not once. I turned to alternatives like the new A&W 10 and 7-Up 10 which are only 10 calories for a 12 oz can. I received them in my Resolutions Crave box this past week. I really liked them but I cannot find them locally which is driving me nuts. Don't you hate when you try something or see a commercial and then cannot find it again or at all. It makes me want to scream. I have been back to drinking decaf coffee and I have been brewing decaf iced tea with artificial sweetener. I made up some lowfat ranch dip and have been having veggies and dip every night. I also love my skinny cow shakes even though they are 5 points. I do have one every other night at bedtime.

So what did all of this progress get me? I lost an additional 1.3 pounds. So one more marble added to my pounds lost jar. At first I admit I was a little upset since I had such a big loss last week, but I shrugged it off a loss is a loss and you can't have big numbers at the scale every week. There is always next week. I am going to try and exercise as much as my body will allow, with my MS I tend to get overheated and the cold and I do not get along so walking outside is out. So we will see what happens next week. I am going to add 2 15 minute workouts of some kind this week and work up from there.

So my total for this week is -1.3 lbs and
Total so far is -4.6lbs and there are 4 less marbles in my pounds to lose jar.

Weekly Weigh In Week 1......

Pin It Now!
So after a stressful week, I still made it to weigh in yesterday and to my surprise I was DOWN 3.3 pounds. This showed me that slowing down on the coca cola does make a difference. I did not give it up completely but cut it down by 75%. I am interested to see if I cut it another 25% what it will do I am going to try to eliminate one serving from the week befores soda totals each week. So for instance this week I am having one 8 oz can every day to every other day. So I am keeping track of how many I have and then each week I will decrease by 1.

I do not like the taste of traditional diet coke so I have found some alternatives that taste pretty good. I received a sample of A&W root beer 10 that is only 10 calories a can and it was very tasty. I also got a 7-Up 10 can but I have not tried it yet. I am not a huge 7-up fan so we will see. I have also tried Pepsi Next but it is 100 calories for a 20oz bottle. So I still think that is too much. So If I need a soda I am going to try to have healthier soda alernatives available for my craving. My goal is to eventually give up all soda. I know I have a long road to go but I am down from 112 pounds to 109. My short term goal is 25 lbs so now I am down to less than 22. I will be back next week with another update.

Score!! Couponing is so much fun!

Pin It Now!

Alyx and I have quickly become addicted to the rush we feel when we come across and extreme deal due to sales and coupons either separately or combined. My newest deal I have been on the lookout for recently is dishwasher tabs for our dishwasher in our new house.

Here is what we scored on our couponing expeditions last night and today. 10 tubes of colgate toothpaste. 10 colgate toothbrushes, 15 boxes of finish dishwasher tabs, 3 bottles of glade disinfectant spray, 1 can of lysol, 2 downy unstoppables, 1 purex crystals and 10 protein bars. Total out of pocket $8.00

The protein bars are not pictured, there was a coupon in yesterdays paper to get 1 free no additional purchase. We bought 10 papers so that is how we get 10 of everything. Colgate toothbrushes and toothpast are on sale 10 for 10 at Kroger and the coupons were for .75 off making them each a quarter. The disinfectant sprays, finish tabs and downy and purex were all in the clearance aisle for 75% off at CVS I used 10 $2.15 off coupons for the finish in several transactions and the overage went towards the extra finish that I did not have a coupon for I had a $10 extra bucks from last weeks P&G promotion that I used for everything else.

New Year, New Me!

Pin It Now!
Well after taking a year off from trying to lose weight with all that went on in our life last year I am back on track this year. I happy to report that upon starting Weight Watchers this past Thursday I am starting 7 pounds lighter than I expected so that was definitely a motivation booster. The other helpful aspect I have is that my friends at TOS have started a crew weight loss support group on facebook. It is so nice to be able to chat about our ups and downs and no there is no judgement.

Another motivation I am using this year is an idea I saw on pinterest. Where you take 2 jars one is marked pounds to lose and the other pounds lost. You put a marble in the pounds to lose jar for each pound you want to lose for me my ultimate goal is 112. SO I put 112 marbles in the jar, on the lid I put my starting date and the starting pounds to lose. The other jar is empty until at least Thursday when I go weigh in, on the lid of that jar I put finished and left a spot for the date and then 112 lost.
Here are pictures of my jars. I will be blogging about my weight loss journey every Thursday after I have weighed in to report my loss or gain. Feel free to blog about your weigh loss journey and leave your link in the comments section of my post.
Good luck to all of you that are sharing in the same journey as I am.

Being Frugal is so much fun!

Pin It Now! I pride myself on cutting expenses by buying things on clearance and using coupons, thrift store shopping and even curb shopping(aka garbage picking).  This week has been especially fruitful for us as we scored some Purex ultra packs on sale half off so we only paid $2.84 for a pack of 26. I only got 4 of them, I went to another Kroger today and they were no longer on sale :( at least we got the ones we did.

We also always do after holiday shopping, and Christmas is my favorite. We shopped at Lowe's, Target, Kmart and Home Depot today and grabbed some bargains since it was all 75% off. Lights for outside for only $3 for a set of nets and the same for icicles.  Pathway markers for only $4, and ornaments for less than $1.50. My absolute favorite deal was my Jim Shore Nativity that is nearly 2 ft tall and was normally over $45 I got it for less than $10 with the sale price and my 10% off coupon that I got in the mail from the post office when we moved and changed our address. I try to collect one large piece of Jim Shore each year, a plate, or a statue of some sort and always a dated ornament.

We are looking forward to Hallmark marking things down as we always snag a large bag of ornaments for  the next year.

This year and last was especially important to us as we are rebuilding our Christmas decorations after we lost all of ours in our garage fire 2 summers ago. I think with what we got this year and last year Next Christmas will begin looking normal decorations wise.

What do you do to be frugal?

Wordless Wednesday Brotherly Love

Nick was thanking Alyx for his Christmas Present and I captured this tender moment on camera. Alyx restored an end table for Nick and worked many hours on it and Nick absolutely loved all the thought and effort Alyx put into it.
