Simple Woman's Daybook December 17, 2013 #simplewomansdaybook #hsmommas #mobsociety

Pin It Now! Time for another week of A Simple woman's daybook, be sure to visit http://thesimplewomansdaybook.blogspot.com/ to join in.

Outside my window...SNOW!
Lots and Lots of it. We got over 7 inches this past weekend and then again another inch or two, with more heading our way. UGH!

I am thinking...moving somewhere warm sounds good right about now.

I am thankful...for a healthy family, seems like all of our friends and their kids are sick.

In the kitchen...soon will be lots of Christmas Cookies baking for the yearly cookie exchange at church with our What's Cooking with Gyda cooking club.

I am wearing...jeans and a snowflake sweatshirt, fitting right?

I am creating...the samples for my sewing class and getting ready to attach all of Alyx's patched to his BDU's for Civil Air Patrol, they need to be done as he is going on his Orientation flight between Christmas and New Year's.

I am going...with Alyx tonight to the CAP Christmas Party.

I am wondering...how long Winter will last this year? I know it is just getting here but my poor body is not handling the cold at all this year. Especially my joints. ;(

I am reading...Weeding out Wheat

I am hoping...that the boys are not disappointed with the gifts this Christmas, it has been tight to say the least and it is going to be a lean year.

I am looking forward to...the Christmas Party tonight and to get to know everyone better.

I am learning... to take each day as it comes and that life is too short.

Around the house...It is beginning to look like Christmas.

I am pondering...getting ready to plan for Nick's Graduation party. As soon as we get our income tax refund I am going to go put the deposit down on the Hall, the nice thing is it is only 2 houses down from us, it will make bringing things over easy.

A favorite quote for today...
Have an Attitude of Gratitude - see what happens...

One of my favorite things...Is seeing everyone posting their Santa Pics with their kids and their family photos, we are going after Christmas to get ours done.

A few plans for the rest of the week:Christmas Party tonight, Gibralter tomorrow with my parents, Thursday Christmas Cookie Exchange and a low key weekend.

A peek into my day...

"Putting on the Spirit" Book Launch and Review and Giveaway #puttingonthespirit #busymomdevos

Pin It Now!

If you are a Mom chances are you are a BUSY Mom!! I know I am but I never want to be too busy to get in touch with God, and 10 minutes is all you need with Putting on the Spirit 10-Minute Devotions for Busy Moms by Katie Hornor. I was so excited for the opportunity to review this book before it even was released. It was like a Gift sent from God right at a moment in my life when I seemed to need it most. If you know me personally, or if you read my blog often you will know that I am what some refer to as Super Mom, a mom with many capes I might add. I am a Mom, a wife, a homeschool teacher, a caregiver for my grandma and a helper to my Mom. All the while trying to be a child of God. Sometimes I feel like I don't get time to even sit down and I felt my relationship with God straining. To my rescue came Katie's book Putting on the Spirit.

So many times we feel the need to be Super Mom and wear our cape but really we need to remove the cape and Put on the Spirit, the Spirit of God. Now even the busiest of Mom's can spare 10 minutes, If I can, I know you can! I found myself getting up earlier than I usually did just so I could sit down and read the daily devotional and then work on the accompanying workbook that is Free with the purchase of the book. I love the quiet time in the morning when my hubby has left for Work and Nick has left for school and the other boys and Grandma have not gotten up yet. My coffee, My Bible and Putting on the Spirit, the book is on my Kindle and the workbook is printed out and in a binder for me to be able to work on it easily. I use my favorite pink pen and sip my coffee. Pure uninterrupted Me time, time to grow closer to God. This study is a month long and not only is perfect for just you but would make a great women's Bible study as well. I can see this being a great homeschool Mom Bible study. I am thinking of asking the ladies of my Co-op to consider this as a Mom's night out to get together and discuss it and go on this journey together.
Some of you may know how I am struggling to be the wife I was called by God to be, it is hard as my husband has some mental health challenges that have caused me to be more of a caregiver than a wife. One of my favorite quotes from the book is this.

"If you find yourself clothed in the Supermom cape of
independence or if you find yourself estranged from your husband,
ask the Lord to help you put off that cape and put on faithfulness."

I needed to hear this more than I knew. I want to be the wife I am called to be, but I struggle with my Supermom Cape, the caregiver cape, and I need to shed the cape and be the Faithful Wife.

The workbook helped to delve deeper into what Katie was trying to teach us using a study of Galatians 5:22-23 and The Fruit of the Spirit and how we do not have to wear our Super Mom cape but to shed it and look to the Lord for all the Spirit we need. I have been blessed beyond measure by the book and study. I feel lighter and more in touch with myself and who I am and do not feel like I have to be Super Mom any more.

You can get your Putting on the Spirit 10-Minute devotionals for Busy Moms and with your purchase of the book you will get the free workbook as well. You can buy it in English or Spanish for just $4.99.

Outside my window...It is looking a little dreary, a tad cloudy looks like rain, or maybe snow, UGH Did I mention I hate Winter with a passion.

I am thinking...this is going to be one busy busy week

I am thankful...for everything good in my life and even for all the bad that has happened it has only made me that much stronger.

In the kitchen...I can hear the dishwasher going, it is a soothing sound of sorts, sounds like rolling waves.

I am wearing...my PJS as usual, usually do not get dressed until I have to LOL

I am creating...my samples for my sewing class that is starting in January for our homeschool co-op. I am hoping my skirt turns out so I can wear it to an upcoming Christmas party or two.

I am going...crazy... just kidding, I am going to take Alyx to his last trial CAP meeting tonight, he gets to turn his paperwork in tonight and become official. He is so excited he can hardly stand it. I also have to go Birthday Shopping for Nick's Birthday which is tomorrow.

I am wondering...How I find the time to get everything done that needs to get done, but by some miracle I always seem to accomplish my to do list no matter how long or short.

I am reading...Mitch Album's New book, you should get it, I love everything he writes.

I am hoping...to get my craft cabinet finished this week and get everything organized so I can get to be more crafty. Organization is the key to my happiness.

I am looking forward to...All of the Christmas Parties coming up, we have a Pot Luck for our co-op this Thursday night, a Christmas Tea with the church on Friday and the CAP party on the 17th. I am also looking forward to the Thirty-One Spring product premiere this coming Saturday.

I am(still) learning.... to say no when I need some down time. Maybe in the end this will produce a shorter to do list, but I am doubtful.

Around the house...Christmas is popping up. We will be rearranging our furniture, one of the downfalls of a small house, to make room for our tree.

I am pondering...what to get Nick for his 17th Birthday? He is so terribly hard to buy for.

A favorite quote for today...

One of my favorite things...Is watching my boys getting along and engaging in an excited conversation about something they love together.

A few plans for the rest of the week:BUSY, Nick's Birthday,Dr. Appts., meetings and parties, Need I say anymore?

A peek into my day...Grama and the dogs chillin or sleepin, this is what this looks like all day long. Gotta Love it!

H is for Holiday Happenings.... Ben and Me's Blogging Through the Alphabet #abcblogging #benandme

Blogging Through the Alphabet

I am catching up, see how easy that was, today is the last day to link up the letter H. Tomorrow starts the Letter I, it is never too late to join in the fun. Even if you are like me you can catch up easy by doubling up letters, especially since it is still fairly early in the game.

H is for Holiday Happenings, it truly is hard to believe the Holiday Season is upon us already. It is always a whirlwind starting on November 8th with Taylor's Birthday and then Thanksgiving, followed abruptly by Nick's Birthday on December 4th and then 3 short weeks later is Christmas, then New Year's. Then and only then do we get to catch our breaths.

The nice thing about this time of year is the breaks that come with the holiday season. we finish up Fall Semester with our co-op the Thursday before Thanksgiving and do not go back until the first full week in January. The TOS Crew takes a break beginning in Mid November and then the waiting comes to see if we are asked back. The longest week of my life, let me tell you, The good news is I was asked back so you will be seeing another year of reviews from me here on my blog. What a blessing the Crew has been to myself and my family. We get let back into our private forums tomorrow, but the first reviews will not be due until sometime late February. So a nice healthy break and then we come back feeling so refreshed and ready to get back to business.
We also lighten the load for school here at home from Now until January, doing only fun learning and unit studies. Since we school year round we can afford to take the break. The boys and I look forward to it each year. We get to focus the learning on the CHRISTmas Holiday and do some fun things as well.

We also seem to have some Christmas Celebrations to attend like our Annual Enrich Christmas Potluck which is this Thursday. This year with adding Civil Air Patrol we will have that Christmas party on the 17th at a hall. There is also the yearly cookie exchange at church with our What's Cooking Group. This year also Alyx will be attending a night before New Year's Eve Lazer Tag event with CAP. Things are about to get busy around here. In late January Alyx will be going to a 2 day CAP Color Guard training. There seems to be countless opportunities for him to learn and better himself with CAP. He is looking so forward to his first flight.
Here is a photo of him at his first meeting, he is the one with the grey fleece coat on, in front of the 3 men with blue polos on, he is between the 1st and second from the right.

I broke down and let Alyx do most of the decorating outside while we had some warm weather but I did not let him put up the inflatable yet, I am thinking he will most likely do it tomorrow. We did manage to get out and do some Black Friday Shopping, not a bunch but some. I am happy to report that I have been doing a little bit of shopping each paycheck so I am in a good place as far as Christmas this year for once in a long time. I do however need to get Nick's Birthday Present tomorrow and order his cake. He has to have his favorite each year, A Casata cake from a local Italian Bakery.
If you remember last year we purchased our first real tree, right after we moved into this house. A year ago today we actually  moved in here, wow seems like a lifetime ago. Anyway we went to Home Depot a few days after we moved in and purchased a Live tree. Well this year the boys have decided we need to venture out to a tree farm and be lumber jacks and chop down our tree this year. I do not like cold and Taylor cannot be cold for any long period of time so I have mixed emotions about this new endeavor but I will try anything once. My motto is you cannot say you do not like something if you have never tried it. So off we will go on Saturday to maybe create a new Christmas Tradition. I am however looking forward to the photo opp it brings with it.
I will be sure to report back with pictures of course.
Hope you all have a blessed week and a blessed month of Holiday Happenings as well.

F and G are for FIELD Trips and GROUP Activities... Blogging Through the Alphabet Letters F and G #ABCBlogging #BenandMe

Blogging Through the Alphabet

Ok so Big Surprise I fell behind in Ben and Me's Blogging through the Alphabet once again, but I am determined to catch up and stay on track and finish this round. So you all have to keep me accountable I have just elected you my blogging conscience. So in order to catch up I am going to group Letters F and G together. Late October and November were big months for us for Field Trips and Group Activities.
We ended October with a field trip to see Disney On Ice, it was pretty cool as it was there huge 100th Anniversary Edition and so pretty much a highlight on all things Disney, this is getting to the point where the boys go to appease me and not as much for them anymore, I am pretty safe to say this was probably our last one, at least until I have grandchildren who will actually enjoy it.
Here are some pics from Disney On Ice.

Then a Short couple weeks later, just after Taylor's 14th Birthday we attended a showing of Ringling Brothers Circus for the first time together, a couple of my boys had seen the circus when they were very young with a field trip while they were in public school. I had not been since I was a child either, so it was fun to all go together, Nick even stayed home to go with us. My Mom went too, it was by far my favorite field trip this far. The theme for this year's Circus was year of the Dragon, this of course had Taylor's full attention. He loves anything to do with China or Japan. It was far more intriguing than I remember as a kid, I cannot wait until next year.
Here are some pics of the highlights of the Circus.

Then the very next day we had the Awards Banquet for our 4-H club. Even though we are new the boys still were recognized. They each received a ribbon and a button. They also got in the group shot.

We have also added Civil Air Patrol to Alyx's Group Activities. Those pictures are coming soon, he is getting one of the uniforms this week and will be turning in his paperwork to make it official this Tuesday. He is super excited and I am sure you all will get tired of me posting pictures of that. I cannot wait to get his pictures done with him in his uniforms, I remember doing that when he was in Young Marines back in the 5th grade. He has changed so much.
This year is just full of changes and opportunities and I cannot wait to see where this wild ride takes us. Nicky is turning 17 yrs old this Wednesday, hard to believe Next year at this time he will be in College. This is his last year as a child. It is really Mind Blowing. I am taking every opportunity to enjoy him this year before it is too late. I want to include him in our field trips as much as possible, it has been hard because of the choice we made to keep him in Public School while homeschooling the other boys. I know the rest of this school year will flash by in a blink of an eye. I want to just pause life sometimes.
I hope you have enjoyed my post about our latest field trips. I will be sure to post Letter H soon so I can get caught back up. Have a great week.
