Pin It Now!

Our first TOS Crew Review of this new voyage for my kids and I starts with this wonderful book, How To Have A H.E.A.R.T. For Your Kids written by Rachael Carman.  This book is published by Apologia Educational Ministries. Many of you know Apologia for their wonderful curriculum but did you know they offer many things other than curriculum? For instance this wonderful book that can be purchased for just $13 and at such a compact size of only 5"x7"  fits great in your purse or tote for on the go reading. They also offer inspirational conferences for Homeschool Moms.

This book is centered around the acronym H.E.A.R.T., Each letter is a chapter in the book and delves into a facet of raising your children, whether you are a homeschooling parent or not this book is a must read for all. Many regard their children as bothersome or the often I cannot wait to get away from my kids, or many public school parents cheer when their kids return back to school in the Fall. Children should not be thought of in this regard and this book teaches you chapter by chapter how to change your HEART for your kids.
Children are a blessing from GOD and should be treated and thought of as such.

Chapter 1 H: Have a Heart for the Things of God
Teaching us to teach our children to put God before all things in our life.

Chapter 2 E: Enrich Your Marriage
Teaching us to be a Servant to our husbands like Christ was a Servant, and to not only be a servant but do it with Joy.

Chapter 3 A: Accept Your Kids
God sent each child into the family he chose for them, with their own unique personalities to help Mold You and other members of your family. In our case our children complete with their disabilities were chosen to be sent to us for God's plan for our lives. This particular chapter struck a chord with me as a parent with children with disabilities. Sometimes I have over the years asked God and myself why me? Instead I have learned not WHY ME? Instead I look to realize God had a divine plan when he sent me my children. Yes he sent me my children. Each child hand picked by God for me. I accept my children for who God made them to be and I need to teach others to accept them for who they are as well.

Chapter 4 R: Release Them to God
As much as a parent thinks their job is to raise up their children, mold them into what they feel they should grow up to be, often hoping and praying they make more of their lives than we did at their age. It is completely up to God and we need to raise them and pray for them and then release them for God to steer them in the direction and path he has planned for them. All beings have a plan created by God the minute he plants them here on Earth and we need to have the Faith in God for he knows what he has planned for each of his children.

Chapter 5 T: Teach Them the Truth
As parents and home educators it is our job to teach our children all truths of the world. The first and foremost truth we should teach all of our children is God is to be in the center of all we do. Teach them about Jesus Christ and how he became our Savior and saved us all from our sins. This should be the first lesson of every day. This should also be the last thing talked about before the lights go out when we say our evening prayers.  If God is kept as the number one priority in life then our children will have the most blessed life possible.

I truly enjoyed reading every page of this book and I know it is one of those books that I will recommend to my Friends homeschoolers or not. This book is a must read for every parent and would make a great shower gift for an expectant parent so that they can start on the right path from the beginning. This book has value beyond price and I know it will be one that I read over and over again. This book really made me step back and observe myself from the outside looking in. Somethings I have down pat and others not so much but this has helped me see the truth and the bigger picture and with a whole lot of prayer and faith I know I will always have HEART for my kids.
Maybe you can put this on your Christmas list this year this could be the best gift you could give yourself and your family.

Good review. I may have to add this to my list of must-reads, it sounds interesting.
