Everything I need to know I have learned from Oprah!

Pin It Now!   I don't know about you, but Oprah has been a big part of my life since I was in Junior High, it was the show that immediately followed General Hospital which back then was the first show on TV when I arrived home from school. So occasionally I would keep watching while I was working on my homework and became slowly fascinated and intrigued by this Spunky black woman that came into my bedroom via TV every afternoon. As I matured and grew older I felt compelled to turn to Oprah for answers to some of my life's questions. Now I know what some of you may say; Really you looked to Oprah for answers? I did I really did. Especially so when I was looking for a good book, I remember reading Eckhart Tolle - A New Earth. That was when I truly was hooked, what a profound choice for a book club reading.
Several Years ago I was lucky enough to receive 2 tickets to a taping to one of Oprah's Shows. My friend Mary and I went the 5 hrs to get to Chicago in the middle of February and let me tell you it was an Awesome experience. We got to see Valerie Bertinelli and William Shatner and just the rush of being in the Studio and Audience was something I will never forget. The rest of the trip was just as memorable both good and bad. We went to the museums and other area attractions, and then upon leaving our hotel, My car was returned with not one but two flat tires. We managed to limp the car a few blocks to the tire store where I was promptly told it would be several hours. Lucky for us it was Free day at the local museums, hence our trip to Field Museum on this cold and rainy afternoon. We returned to the tire place hungry and tired and did not get my car back until almost 8 pm, so here we go on our journey home only to get  a third of the way down the freeway to hit the worst ice storm I have ever driven in. Really God!! So as we watch cars and trucks sliding sideways off the road, and my white knuckling it all the way, I managed to call my Dad who talked me to the nearest hotel in Paw Paw. We spent the night and continued home the next morning which thankfully was sunny albeit cold.
Here is the thing although the road trip turned out to be frightful and felt like it was never ending I can take with me this, I will never forget being at Harpo Studios and seeing Oprah in person. She is a "real" person to me not just a TV Icon. I will forever hold that experience in my heart as one of the greatest experiences of my life.
Many people don't like Oprah for whatever reason they have. I find people either Love her or Hate her there is no in between. I for one am one of the people who Love her and Respect her and all that she has done for people as I have watched her evolve over the last 25 years. I for one will miss her even though I did not have the chance to faithfully watch her every afternoon as Life simply got too busy. I will miss having the choice to tune my TV to her smiling face every afternoon at 4 PM.
I do occasionally watch her new network OWN. It certainly is not the same as watching one of her new episodes but will have to do.
Anyway here are the 10 Life Lessons Oprah has taught all of us, her viewers over the years and I will hold onto these in my heart and I will continue to carry them with me throughout my life and continue to teach them to my children and eventually grandchildren.
I like millions of other Americans tuned into watch Oprah's Farewell Show, they even aired last night on prime time and I watched it for a second time last evening.

In a trim pink cocktail length dress, a radiant Oprah started off the show by running this quote from her first episode:

"One thread running through each show it is the message that you are not alone."

Then, looking directly into the camera, present day Oprah said, "I want to leave you with the lessons that have been the anchor of my life." And she did.

Consider the "you are not alone bit" above lesson no. 1. The other nine are condensed in handy printable form below:

2. "Wherever you are that is your talk show and that is where your power lies."

3. "[A calling] lights you up and lets you know you're exactly where you're supposed to be doing exactly what you're supposed to be doing. Live from the heart of yourself. You have to know what sparks the light in you so you in your own way can illuminate the world."

4. "Nobody but you is responsible for your life. And what is your life? What is all life? Every flower, rock, tree? Energy. And you're responsible for the energy that you create for yourself and that you bring to others."

5. "All the energy you spend trying to hurt someone else will turn around and slap you in the face."

6. "There is a difference between thinking you deserve to be happy and knowing you are worthy of happiness. We often block our own blessings because we don't feel smart or pretty or worthy enough. The show's taught me you're worthy because you're born and you're here. You alone are enough."

7. "[People] want to know 'Do you see me, do you hear me? Does what I say mean anything to you?' Try it with your children, your husband, your boss -- validate them. 'I see you. I hear you. And what you say matters to me.'"

8. "I know that presence [God], that flow -- some call it grace -- is working in my life at every single turn. It's closer than your breath and it's yours for the asking ... You can acknowledge it or not. You can ignore it. Or you can know it... God is love and god is life and your life is always speaking to you.

9. "My hope is you will be a safe harbor for somebody else. Connect, embrace, liberate, love just one person. Then spread that to two and see what a difference that makes."

10. "There are no coincidences. Only divine order here."

This has been a reading from the (inevitable) book of Oprah.

Then with her grace and composure she did not say Goodbye or Farewell, but simply put "Until we meet again," and with that she exited the Oprah Show stage and it was all over. Twenty-years, of celebrity fanfare, tears and laughter. Book club, dark secrets revealed and amazing gifts, and so much more.
Oprah You will be missed by me and many.

Twizzlers Landmark Summer

Pin It Now!   I don't know about you but my family loves to take road trips, we traveled a ton when I was a kid, long trips, short trips. My favorite trips were always going to Texas to visit family. We would stop many times along the way. Graceland in Tennessee, Kentucky, The French Quarter in Louisiana. Many destinations in Texas as well. The Space Museum, Galveston Gulf. I long to take my kids on a long road trip Out West. The longest we have been in the car is one trip to Texas when Nick was 2 and Alyx was a baby.  The other trips we have taken have been much closer, Indiana, Up North in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois to Chicago. I think Chicago was one of the kids' favorites, we visited Navy Pier, Field Museum to see Sue the Dinosaur, and Shedd Aquarium, which is my favorite. My Ultimate Dream is to get an RV and homeschool across the USA but I think we may need to win the lottery first.
Twizzlers over at  http://www.twizzlers.com/ is running an awesome promotion for the upcoming Summer Vacation Season ....

Twizzlers® Candy, the perfect on-the-go treat, is helping to sweeten family travel this summer with the Twizzlers Landmark Summer™ promotion. The promotion gives consumers the chance to win a trip to a well-known United States destination plus daily, road trip-themed prizes throughout the summer.

According to family travel expert Emily Kaufman, “The Travel Mom,” families are starting to think past the backyard “staycation” and are rediscovering the freedom of the open road. Kaufman shares the following tips for a fun and safe family road trip:

■Create a boredom bag. Convert a hanging travel cosmetic case into a case full of fun and hang it from the seat back in front of the kids’ seats. Consider creating fun works of art with Twizzlers

Pull ‘n’ Peel Candy before snacking on them!

■Take your trip “online.” From GPS systems to phone applications, trips are no longer a navigation nightmare.

■Think through the snacks you pack. Avoid packing snacks that are easy to spill like juice boxes or snacks that melt. Try plastic bottles with sports tops and bring along Twizzlers Candy or Twizzlers Nibs Candy – they are easy to share and don’t melt, making them the perfect car ride treat.

Where is your family's favorite road trip destination????

Disclosure I am  entering a contest for a Twizzlers Landmark Summer promotion prize pack as a member of the Mom Bloggers Club.

Outside my window...God has blessed us with some beautiful Spring Weather and SUNSHINE Galore. I love this time of year, the promise of life and growth with every bud that begins to blossom.

I am thinking...That Life is Wonderful, everything is going pretty smoothly these days, sure there may be a hiccup or two but all in all God has BLESSED us Tenfold.

I am thankful for...All of God's Blessings he has bestowed on my family the last 2 years, We have struggled to sometimes understand why God choses to make our lives a little difficult, but we have grown to realize ALL THINGS happen for a reason Good or Bad, God has a plan and although we may not see the Plan at times of difficulty later on we will see that it was all meant to be.

Not so Wordless Wednesday SCS Civic Carnival 2011

Pin It Now! We were excited for beautiful weather for the annual city carnival and especially so this year as we convinced Taylor to try some rides and much to his enjoyment he like them A ton and did not want to leave.

Taylor and I played the game where you squirt water at the target to blow up the balloon and pop it, well there was about 8 people playing and Taylor won, he picked this crazy hat, so he will have a funky hat for spirit days at Enrich. He was very proud.
The boys rode this several times, it had really loud music playing and went forward and backward. It was nuts and Taylor loved every minute except for the long line that they had to wait in.
Daddy joined in the fun and rode the hang glider with Alyx, this is one Tay would not go on.
Taylor finally got up the courage to go down the big slide, after admitting to us that part of his issue is he is afraid of heights.
Alyx went on this by himself, he is quite the daredevil when it comes to rides, if you look really close he is on the right in the last seat up at the top. He has a kelly green shirt on

Taylor and Alyx loved this ride too, it was called the scrambler. The laughed their heads off.
Alyx likes the super slide he went a couple times, but loved the fast rides more so he left and went to ride the rides more.

We have exciting news for toy enthusiasts and kids everywhere! Cepia LLC, the makers of ZhuZhu Pets®, have taken the timeless game of marbles and given it a modern day spin. DaGeDar™ supercharged battle balls encourage strategy and skill in a collectible racing game that lets kids set the rules. DaGeDar™ launched in Phoenix this week but will be racing into markets everywhere this summer!

DaGeDar™ (pronounced DAH-geh-DAAR) collectible supercharged battle balls have a special feel and weight that almost demand to be raced! Each DaGeDar™ battle ball boasts a graphic design that reflects the true energy contained within. More than 240 different DaGeDar™ ball graphics are planned for release this year, with varying degrees of rarity. Each ball carries a special code number that when registered on the DaGeDar™ website (www.dagedar.com) will reveal the true spirit contained within the DaGeDar™ ball, as well as its hidden powers, which can assist in racing strategy and let kids unleash the power within!

Racing DaGeDar™ balls requires skill, practice, agility and finesse. Players must control the speed and velocity of DaGeDar™ balls in order to propel them through thrilling loops and turns without forcing the balls off the tracks. Exciting tricks and stunts can be refined by whirling DaGeDar™ balls in Spinners or loading several balls into Battle Launchers to unleash them with supercharged battle play.

Reading about DaGeDar™ is one thing, but seeing it for yourself is quite another! Check out this awesome commercial to see this sure-fire hit in action.

Disclaimer: By sharing this infomercial with you I am entered to win a set of DaGeDar toys from MomSelect and the toy manufacturer.

Another school year coming to a close

Pin It Now!   It is so hard to wrap my head around the fact that this school year is almost finished. We made it through another year, but most of all we succeeded in finishing our first entire school year of homeschooling. I feel so accomplished and so do the boys, they have blossomed so much this year.
Hard to believe that next year I will have 7th, 8th and 10th graders. Nick starts Driver's ed in the Fall, Yikes how did that happen.
Everything is slowly winding down for the Summer. Enrich is finished until September, last night was recognition night and Taylor received his 6th grade certificate, he is officially a junior high student. I just simply do not know how they all got so big.
There is only today and next month's art class for the year. Royal Rangers ends June 15th and Nick's last day of school is June 16th. We will be done with our required core subjects next week but will be doing many learning based field trips and some projects until Nick is finished. Tonight is Dave and I's last night of bowling for the season. We will miss it we have enjoyed the fellowship so much. We will definitely be rejoining next Season and hope we can convince some more friends from Church to join us. We did sign up for the Kids Bowl Free Program this year and paid for the adult membership as well this time as there is a bowling alley really close to home that is participating this year. Also many of our friends and their families have signed up as well. We are also very anxious to start Geocaching, but with all the rain I refuse to go traipsing through mud to find the caches. We are going to be teaching some of our friends to geocache this year and the boys are so excited to share our family hobby with good friends.
Well I think that is about it for now, here are some pictures from Recognition Night 2011 from Enrich.

Here is Taylor posing by our display for our class that I taught, Taylor was a student in my class.
Here is my display I made and some of the projects my class made.
Here is Alyx standing proud near the chain reaction contraption his class made.
Taylor waiting for his certificate, he hates to have his picture taken and I get very few good ones. He always has a funny look on his face.
Alyx's Team Challenge class had an impromptu challenge issued by Mr.K, they had to put themselves in height order with their eyes closed, there were over 30 kids from both sessions and they did very well.
Alyx's class almost done 30 seconds left to finish

                                                Alyx concentrating really hard
