CLOSED Skoy Cloth Review and Giveaway 2 Winners

Pin It Now!

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED WINNER WILL BE POSTED AND NOTIFIED FRIDAY JUNE 4th

We were recently asked to review Skoy cloths. We were sent a 4 pack of their 100% biodegradable cleaning cloths. It is no secret we are trying to go as green as possible step by step, and what better way then to replace paper towels with these wonderful little cloths. They are reusable and machine washable and they are completely eco friendly. For every 1 cloth you use you can replace 15 rolls of paper towel. I know we were using a ton of paper towel with 6 people  in the family. So to be able to save 60 rolls of paper towel with these 4 little cloths. That is amazing!!

The following information was taken from the Skoy Cloth Website
USE
Wet your SKOY cloth before using. Be sure to squeeze out the excess water for optimal absorption. It can be used with popular household cleaners, but works just as well with water.

Note: Rinse cloth very well when combined with dish soap in order not to leave residue.
We recommend that after your SKOY cloth has passed its prime, it can be used as a rag for heavier cleaning. Chlorine-use is not recommended.
CARE
The SKOY can be cleaned in your dishwasher and is washer and dryer safe up to 90°C (190°F).
Another option to keep your SKOY cloth germ-free is to microwave it daily when damp for 1-2 minutes. This will also remove possible bad smell that is caused by bacteria. Remember your SKOY cloth must be wet when microwaving for best effect and to avoid risk for fires. The SKOY cloth will be extremely hot when removing from the microwave so please use caution and wait a moment. Immediately run under cool water to rinse.
Note: Make sure the SKOY cloth is wet when microwaving to avoid fires.

Warning: The SKOY cloth can be extremely hot when removing from the microwave.

FAQ

1) How long does a SKOY last?

Since SKOY is reusable and washable it can last a very long time, some people still use them after a year. A normal life cycle of a SKOY cloth starts in the kitchen to wipe counter tops and table tops. After using the SKOY for a week or two in the kitchen, it can be renewed in the washer and “downgraded” for indoor cleaning such as floors, bathrooms, etc. After a few months in this stage, being washed a couple of times, the SKOY can then be used for outdoor messes, such as wiping patio furniture as well as for garage use. This is the great thing with SKOY, it can be used over and over again.

We love to hear how you use your SKOY, use our feedback page.

2) Where can I buy more SKOY cloths?

You can buy it on our web site (click here) or from one of “our SKOY friends”, both online e-tailers and local retail stores (click here).

If you do not find it in your local store, let them know you would like them to carry SKOY. If a few customers inquire, they are likely to take action and contact us.

3) On what surfaces can I use a SKOY?

SKOY works best on hard surfaces, such as counter tops, table tops, bookshelves, etc.

4) Can I use SKOY to clean furniture upholstery or to suck up a stain from a carpet?

SKOY is mainly intended for hard surfaces. If you want to try to use SKOY on textile surfaces then we recommend to use our white SKOY, since in rare cases a colored SKOY could discolor the textile.

5) Can I use SKOY in other places besides the kitchen?

Yes. Our customers use SKOY in many places: kitchen, bathroom, office, garage, boat, automobile, patio, camping, etc.

Our golfers have reported that they also are great for cleaning golf clubs. Please use our feedback page and share your uses for SKOY!

6) What is the difference between SKOY and a microfiber cloth?

The biggest difference is that SKOY is made from natural materials and is 100% biodegradable, while microfiber cloths are made from synthetic materials (see Wikipedia). In other words, SKOY is more earth-friendly. Our experience also show that a SKOY cloth absorbs liquids better than a microfiber cloths and as such is superior for kitchen use. Finally, we think that SKOY feels better in your hand when using it. Let us know what you think on our feedback page.

7) How is SKOY a greener cleaning solution than paper towels, both end up on the landfill and both are biodegradable?

It is true that both SKOY and paper towels end up on the landfill (unless you have a compost) and that both are biodegradable. However, there is a big and important difference — a paper towel you can only use once, while a SKOY can be used over and over again. In an average household, each SKOY cloth saves 15 rolls of paper towels!

8) Why is reducing the use of paper towels a big deal?

According to EPA USA generates 250 million tons of trash per year, of which around 34% is paper. That is 85 million tons of paper waste per year! Reducing paper-towel waste has many important benefits:

· Less paper waste reduces greenhouse gases in multiple ways (click on picture from EPA to the right):

a) reduces transportation required to haul goods/packages,

b) reduces energy needed to make goods/packages,

c) reduces fuel consumed in hauling waste to landfill, and

d) reduces methane in landfill from decomposing paper.

· Using less paper towels means cutting down less trees, which reduces the risk of deforestation (click on the tree symbol to the right). Of course, some paper towels use more recycled material than others, but in the end you make paper from trees.

“17 trees are consumed to make one ton of paper towels” (American Dryer web site)

· Using less paper towels means we can use less chemicals and waste less water needed to produce paper towels.

“Even before the paper towels are used, each ton has claimed 20,000 gallons of water in chemical cleansing.” (Wikipedia)

· Using less paper towels means using up less landfill resources.

“A decrease in U.S. household consumption of just three rolls per year would save 120,000 tons of waste and $4.1 million landfill dumping fees.” Arizona State University

Imagine every household saving 15 rolls for each SKOY…!

9) What material is SKOY made out of?

SKOY is made from a unique blend of natural cotton and cellulose from wood.

10) Can I put my old SKOY in my compost?

Yes, SKOY is both biodegradable and compostable. An independent composting test showed that SKOY broke down completely within 5 weeks (16 weeks in a city landfill).

11) When will my order arrive?

We normally ship out within a day or two, but in rare cases it can take 5 business days. At the moment we use USPS “First-Class Mail Package”, which is delivered within 3 days. In other words, you should see your SKOY cloths in the mail within 3-8 business days.

12) Will microwaving SKOY really kill the bacteria?

According to a scientific study microwaving a wet sponge for 2 minutes is an effective method to sterilize it and kill the bacteria (click on WebMD to the right to read article).

Note: Make sure the SKOY cloth is wet when microwaving to avoid fires.

I love that skoy cloths are machine washable! I hate the idea that stuff grows on sponges and other "disposable" items.

when Michelle one of the Skoy cloth owners was in Europe, she discovered a cloth used over there very similar to the Skoy. On heading back to the States, paper towels & sponges were not as effective, so she developed the Skoy Cloth.
